History of APLIC Congress

The Asia Pacific Life Insurance Council (APLIC Council) was formed in September 1991, when the inaugural meeting was held in Singapore, attended by the Presidents of the National Life Underwriter Associations from Australia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.  In conjunction, the 1st Asia Pacific Life Insurance Congress (APLIC) was held hosting more than 5,000 delegates from the region.

With a common goal, the members of the APLIC Council extended their invitations to include other National Associations from Japan, India, Macau and Taiwan. Following the success of the 1st APLIC Congress, eight more congresses took its place. Today, the APLIC Council is known as the Asia Pacific Financial Services Association (APFinSA) and the Congress is still known as the APLIC Congress.
APLIC Congress Objectives

The APLIC Congress was formed with the following objectives:-

  • Exchange of Ideas and Experiences

  • Improve Practice Development Competence, Planning and Services

  • Public Awareness: Economic and Social Worth
APLIC Congress Milestone

Since the formation of the Association, Congresses at the regional level had been organized bi-annually, and have been well received by all member countries. From the 10th APLIC Congress onwards, the Congress will be held annually and managed by APFinSA headquarters directly. Previous hosts include:

  • 1st APLIC Congress  in 1991 -     Singapore

  • 2nd APLIC Congress in 1993 -      Malaysia

  • 3rd APLIC Congress in 1996 -      Australia

  • 4th APLIC Congress in 1997 -      Hong Kong

  • 5th APLIC Congress in 1999 -      Philippines

  • 6th APLIC Congress in 2001 -      Thailand

  • 7th APLIC Congress in 2003 -      Singapore

  • 8th APLIC Congress in 2005 -      Malaysia

  • 9th APLIC Congress in 2007 -      Taiwan

  • 10th APLIC Congress in 2007 -    Korea
